My Stay In Brazil

 Bom dia senhor!

An unexpected weather shocked me as I arrived here in Sao Paulo. I was expecting a tropical breeze. Bem-vindo! then I felt the breeze slowly touches my already cold skin as I came out of the airport. Como-esta! says the taxi driver who was assigned to pick us up, as I walked down the hallway to the parking area where our taxi is parked by then I realized my wrong expectations. We drove for 40 minutes from the airport to the hotel. I get the chill and excitement as I watch the city came by. What it would be like to lived here? I wondered.

I am thrilled because I was expecting to stay here in Sao Paulo for 1 year. That's what I have signed for before I left the Metrotel Philipppines. And now I am riding on this taxi going across Sao Paulo, heading to estranho place where we will stay. Then there is the expressway, and cars are moving fast, but as a Filipino, I say "fast" but it is not the "fast" that we used to mean back in Philippines. This would be a "very fast" in NLEX and SLEX, but I can't panic. Yes we are free to make a suggestion on how the driving should be, but how to say it? So, I sit back and relived the experience of South Africa.

I think 10% of Brazil's population can speak English, and unfortunately the Taxi Driver does not belong to that group. So the best thing to do is to keep quiet. As I looked on the dashboard where his GPS is located, it has marked place which I think is 5 kilometers away from where we are. And just like that, there is the Hotel!

Discomfort and uncertatinty is what I feel as the attendant speaks to us. There it is again, não entendo!

But he tries to explain everything, that we will stay in the hotel for a little while, then we will go to a big apartment afterwards.

Well, that's what I guess because he is throwing his arms while he speaks, that's a sign language I think. A slang one.

Then as I looked at my colleague, we both smiled as he said "filho da puta!".

Well that's the start of My Stay In Brazil!!!
